NBA Street V3
Step into the shoes of NBA legends, current basketball stars, and original characters from previous games. Play in familiar courts, such as The Cage and Rucker Park, or create your own court from the ground up. NBA Street V3 also features a new dunk contest and online multiplayer modes.
The Street Challenge consists of ten weeks of solid b-ball action on street courts around this great nation (and others, should you choose to host your squad somewhere like London). The general idea of Street Challenge is to create a player and build his Rep by playing in a variety of situations. As yoour Rep grows, more courts and more challenges will be available to you. In addition, as you get better and win, you will be able to snag players from the teams you beat (even some quality NBA guys).
The ultimate goal is to finish the Challenge, win the final tournament, and have a healthy and dominant squad by season's end. There are tons of things to do while in this mode, so we'll give you a thumbnail here before we start:. Everyday games: On any given day, you have your choice of several styles of games (discussed below in the Game Types section) to choose from. Pick the games that best suit the flavor of your team at the moment. If you have a speedy squad with lots of handles, you may want to look at Trick Point Challenges and Long Range only games. Big, beefy teams can wreck shop in the Dunks Only categories. If you're looking for a light snack, play a no Gamebreaker match to 7.
Remember, each day is broken into two parts, Day and Night. Day courts are easier to unlock and easier to dominate. Do not skip more than two events in a row, or you will lose 2 Rep points each time you do. Tournaments: From time to time, there will be tournaments that crop up around the various street courts. These vary in length and intensity, but winning them will sometimes yield customization items and unlockable players. Invite Matches/Challenges: Like tournaments, you will often see messages popping up from various ballers during the course of the week. Guys will challenge you to various games, and it's your decision where to go, as many of them appear simultaneously as your legend grows.
Again, choose the game type most tailored to your team's skills. Street League: If your Rep is impressive enough, you'll get invited to join an NBA team in Street League. This adds more events to your docket and gives you an opportunity to compete for even more glory and goodies. Dunk Contests: These happen by invitation, and pit you against one or many aerial desperadoes. Hone your skills in the Dunk Contest mode before ever beginning the Street Challenge, and you'll give yourself a serious advantage.Getting Started: The Players Winning games means a better rep, and a better rep means better games, more exposure, and more fame. We all wanna be famous, right?
That's why you have to start smart and pick a team that will give you the best possible chance to win.Go Big or Go Home We know that everyone has their own play style and that usually factors in heavily when selecting the players you create and begin with. However, we've tried a lot of different combinations of ballers, and we've found that the age-old adage 'size matters' really applies in NBA Street Vol. All y'all who play small ball listen up: that isn't going to work here, at least at first. What you really want to do is to create a dude who brushes the clouds. Remember that huge monster in Clash of the Titans? Fit him with some Converse and toss him on the court if you can.
Our boy Jon 'J Rob and Steal' Robinson, the guru, made his player 7'7' and 290, and lemme tell you. That guy clogs up the lane.
Who's going to stop him from driving? Don't think so. You get instant buckets from a guy that huge, and a monster advantage in the blocks department.I know, I know. You're short, right? I think it's cute and funny to make my video game players small and powerful, just how I would like to be.
The reality is. Have a Napolean complex for once and make your guy taller than George Muresan, but more skilled. You'll thank me in the morning.Filling Out the Squad Now that you've go instant advantage with your created player, it's time to select the rest of your squad. Here, you're going to want balance and defense. While your giant in the middle will take care of the rejections, you'll need some squirrelly guys with quick hands to swipe the rock.
Stealing the ball is a huge part of the defensive game, and you'll want as much advantage as possible in that area.Even though your plus-sized dude should be able to dunk, you'll want another guy (or girl) who is able to slam the rock effectively. This will contribute mightily to your ability to combo, especially with mutliple players going up for dunks (or alley-oops). Phat dunking skills will also translate to better Gamebreaker opps. Getting Started: The Court The first thing you'll have to create is your home court. You must create a court in order to play this mode, so hop to it.
In addition to courts all over the US, you have the option to place them in Canada and the UK. Apparently Mexico and Turkey don't get jack. The most important thing, honestly, about creating a court is making sure the lines are visible. On super-worn courts, it is difficult to see where the three-point (or in street ball, two point) line is. Make sure you set the Line Wear to 'Fresh' and keep the lines white on as dark a court as possible. You may consider upgrading to black as soon as you earn some points to make it stand out as much as possible. After setting the lines, everything else on the court is about aesthetics.
Save your points for player skills.Game Types As you play through the ten weeks of the Street Challenge, you will encounter many different game styles. Each varies in number of points needed to win, etc.
For instance, a No Gamebreakers Game might be to 7 or 21. In this section, we break down each contest, and who you should bring to battle in each case.Pick-Up Game This the standard game type. You must win by two. Gamebreakers are active, buckets within the arc count for one and outside count for two.
Roll into this game with a balanced team. You want a great dunker or two, someone who can shoot threes, someone who can steal and someone who can block. Work your Gamebreaker as quickly as possible. This can break your opponent early, especially if you're playing against the computer.NBA Scoring Game NBA scoring is in effect for these kind of games. That means shots from beyond the three-point line count for threes and short-range baskets are worth two. You want roughly the same kind of team here as you want in the pick-up game.
Make sure you have a decent three point shooting threat heading into the game. Use pump fakes to get defenders in the air and go up for the shot.No Gamebreakers Game As you might suspect, this game type does away with Gamebreakers, so it's all about straight-up b-ball.
You needn't bring too many fancy handlers to this game, just grab some solid shooters who are good in close. Here, combos are completely unimportant.
Don't worry about the shake and bake. Just get to the hole early and often.Old School Game All shots are worth one point, so don't bother launching long range jumpers. Again, you'll want some beefy sweeties on the inside to throw down the rock.Dunks Only Game No shots besides dunks will fly here, so don't bring anyone to the game who can't jam it home. The toughest thing about this kind of event is remembering that close-in shots like lay-ups won't work. However, keep it in mind and if you see a player go into a shooting motion that isn't a dunk, pass the ball in midair.
Work to your Gamebreaker as quickly as possible and go for a +3, -1 early on to seal the match.Trick Point Challenge In the early going, these challenges are usually only to about 250,000, meaning essentially that the first Gamebreaker will win it. Make sure you have guys who can combo, and power players who can finish combos with thunderous dunks. In order to keep your opponent from racking up enough to get a Gamebreaker, harrass them with steals and get back to the fancy dance.First Gamebreaker Wins Much like a trick point challenge, this one calls for maxing out your Gamebreaker meter quickly.
Remember, you do not need to do a spectacular Gamebreaker. Once the bar is filled, go up for a standard GB dunk and get the thing over with. To build your meter quickly, combo chain and finish with three-and-four turbo button dunks.Tournaments As you progress through Street Challenge, you will be invited to several tournaments. These range in scope, number of teams and difficulty, but you won't encounter many seriously difficult tournaments until later in the Challenge. Once you begin a tourney, you can't save or customize, so make sure you do both things before beginning.
Tournaments are usually single-elimination, so if you lose, you go home. Load up a balanced team, because tourneys never have special rules. It's just standard pick-up rules, so get to your Gamebreaker quickly, and don't panic. It's a long game.Performing well in tournaments will unlock Rbk sponsorship and Street V3 awards.Dunk Contests Like tournaments, Dunk Contests are by invitation, and can involve a number of players, or simply be one-on-one.
Dunk Contests are always two rounds-the qualifying and the finals. In qualifying, ballers will get the opportunity to do three dunks, and only the best two will count. The top two ballers at the end of the three dunks will go to the finals, and compete for the ultimate prize.
For more knowledge on competing in, head to that section of this guide.NBA Street League As the season plays out and you gain in Rep, you will get invited to join the NBA Street League. If you don't get asked by Week 7, though, forget it. NBA Street League will add extra events to your schedule.Being in the Street League will have you playing with ballers outside of your assembled team.
For instance, if the Bucks want you to join their squad, you'll be playing with the likes of Michael Redd and Desmond Mason, rather than the squad you've assembled. This mixes things up a bit, but if you went with our original suggestion and made your created baller huge and dominant, you should have no problem smoking the League competition.Street League games are like normal Pick-Up games. Score is to 21, Gamebreakers are in effect and the normal street basket values apply. A well-balanced team is crucial to your success in this league.Make sure you never miss a League game (before you skip, always be sure to look at every event to be sure you aren't missing one), because if you miss even one, your team could decide to cut you. Once you are cut from a League squad, you will lose your opportunity to compete in these events. What to Customize We all want nice tennies and signature gear, but as the LA Clippers consistently prove, it takes more than pretty outfits and expensive sneakers to win. That's why all of your points should be put into improving your player before any modifications are made elsewhere. In the Street Challenges we played to write this guide, no points were spent dressing up the players or courts.
This will allow you to grow the most respectable players on the court. By focusing all of your points on improving your created guy (and playing as many matches as possible to yield more points), you'll be able to max out a lot of stats categories and make your Rep quite juicy as a result.Who to Grab As you plow through the lengthy season, you'll have opportunities to grab players from other squads and shuffle them into your lineup.
Selecting these guys correctly is just as important as picking your original team, because in the upper echelons of the Street Challenge, you'll need their help to succeed. When looking for a player to add, you want to check out his/her reputation first. Don't replace a guy if the rep of the player you're bringing in is lower than his, unless, of course, your team is unbalanced. That's the other thing to look for: make sure any baller you add jives with what you need him to do. You don't want to end up with three bug guys who can't steal or shoot.
Make sure you have variety in the skill sets of your players. A well-rounded team is a winning team. That said, there is an easy way to preview the players available for snagging (should you win).
At the Proving Grounds screen, select a court. This will take you to a player select screen, and you'll be able to peruse who the enemy is bringing to play. If you win, you'll be able to gank an opponent, so choose your contests carefully. You might not get a lot of shots at certain players. In the early going, there are some quality NBA players that can really help your squad. These guys will instantly improve your squad, and supplement the towering behemoth you created. They are:. Jon Barry: Excellent Handles and Shooting make Barry an excellent early selection.
His quick hands and long-range ability give you an accurate shooter from almost anywhere on the court. The only thing you don't want to do with him is dunk. Desmond Mason: A powerful dunker and quick player, Mason is tough to guard and even tougher to stop from scoring. Grab him when you have the opportunity then use him to go strong to the hole. It's no wonder he is usually found in a Dunk contest or Dunks Only game. Josh Childress: Long but quick, accurate and powerful, Childress has the complete game. He is an excellent blocker, steals consistently, and is a fantastic dunker, to boot.
Troy Murphy: Another big man, he is also decent at knocking down the mid-range jumper, in addition to snagging lots of boards and, of course, dunking like a madman.A mix of these guys and your large superstar is a great early team, and should lead to an impressive record. As you move up the charts and your rep grows, you'll have the opportunity to upgrade at some of the positions with marquee players from around the league. Since there are a lot of players to choose from in the later stages of the action, you will be less confined, but in the early stages, stick with the suggestions above to secure wins.As you progress through the league and your rep grows, you will have players asking to join your squad to get in on the action. If a player asks to join your crew, it won't cost any street points to bring him aboard, so sign him up if he's worth it. You can get some serious talent this way. In the forurth week of one season, Jerry Stackhouse (800 Rep) asked to join my squad. I swapped him out for McGinnis (mid-200s) and seriously upgraded my roster.Down the line, all sorts of ballers come to play.
You'll' have a chance to pick up Beastie Boys, league MVPs and big shot-blockers, in addition to some Street Legends. Here's who you should definitely grab down the stretch if the opportunity presents itself:. Paul Pierce: 'The Truth' becomes available near the midway point of the season, and he is a valuable asset that can shoot threes, dunk and defend. By all means, grab him.
Michael Redd: A great shooter and super defender, Redd is a sweet all-around player. If your roster is loaded with power and you need a touch of finesse, he's the man for you. MCA: The best of the Beasties, MCA's dunking ability and staunch defense is a benefit to any roster. Add his speed and vivaciousness to your team and you won't be sorry. Tim Duncan: Granted, TD doesn't show his mug until the season's almost over, but his myriad skills should help you win out in the final tourney.
