Solforge Review
Alternatives to Solforge? So, now that we're all hearing deathknells for Solforge, what alternatives are people playing? I've tried Hearthstone and it is WAY too simple to satisfy me. Zac's reviews are usually accurate, he puts his fingers on the main pros and cons for each game. If you are looking for new games, just head there. Solforge was the product of a successful Kickstarter campaign, but since the company making it isn’t called Blizzard, it has had to work with much less resources and, as a result, the fantastic.
The news comes via the, where Justin Gary, CEO of developers Stone Blade Entertainment, made the announcement.“As of today, we are ceasing development of new content for the current implementation of SolForge. We will continue to maintain the servers through the end of January 31, 2017,” says Gary. “This isn’t the way any of us wanted SolForge to end. Unfortunately, we bit off more than we could chew trying to build a digital game of this scope and have learned many hard lessons along the way that we will apply to future games (including future incarnations of SolForge).”Those last parentheses might offer some hope to SolForge fans. Gary says Stone Blade are “speaking with potential partners who may be able to take over the SolForge IP and remain hopeful that SolForge will return one day, better than ever.”But, as of the end of this month, the game is going offline.
Reflecting on the game’s journey since its launch, Gary says:“Thanks to backing from fans and years of hard work, we launched SolForge in August of 2013, and continued to support and build this amazing community for more than three years. Thousands of players have enjoyed millions of games. That is an amazing milestone that few games will ever reach. Our community has always been incredibly warm, welcoming, and one of the best I’ve ever seen in my 20 years in the gaming industry. Everyone here at Stone Blade is honored to have been a part of this journey.
Cruiser car mechanic simulator 18. This is due to the fact that they generally work with a specific version of the game and after updating it or choosing another language they may (although do not have to) stop working or even malfunction.Extra care should be taken with modifications, trainers, and other things that were not created by the game’s developers.
Unfortunately, that journey is coming to an end.”The team behind SolForge know CCGs inside and out. They took consultation from Richard Garfield, the original creator of Magic: The Gathering, and include Hearthstone and Magic personality Brian Kibler. Justin Gary is himself a former Magic pro who won the Houston 2002 Pro Tour event.SolForge was unique among CCGs in many ways. It removed the concept of card advantage by forcing players to draw a new hand every turn, and was uncommonly generous with card drops. It’s a loss to the genre and will no doubt be missed by its dedicated community.SolForge is free to play on, if you’d like to get in a few last games.

In the game, players build decks of 30 cards to be used as an army against a single opponent. Thanks to some fantastic art and solid mechanics, SolForge holds its own as a great card game on the iPad.Perhaps the greatest part about SolForge is that playing it is a snap. The game board shows two sets of five card slots, and players simply plug creature cards into those slots to place them in the battlefield.
Once that is done, these characters enter a battle phase where they attack any enemies directly across from them. In the event there is no enemy to battle with, creatures deal direct damage to the opposing player. Each game ends when one of the two players takes 100 points of damage.Although the basic mechanics for actually playing SolForge seem dead simple, there are a lot of things to keep track of that make mastering winning strategies challenging and satisfying. For example; when playing cards, players can only play up to two out of a hand of five. Once those two cards are played, the hand is discarded and completely new cards are drawn again. Also, playing cards multiple times allows players to 'level them up' to a more powerful version.
Lastly, players can win more cards by successfully beating their opponents and use those to customize their own decks. These added layers to SolForge make it a much more compelling package than it would be if it were a more standard card game. And although it crashes a bit on iOS and has offers for in-app purchases, it is still worth checking out right now (especially since it's free!).Overall SolForge is a cool new evolution of digital card games. Leveling up creatures and lane management makes it even feel a bit like the card game version of Defense of the Ancients (DoTA). If players are the least bit interested in iOS card games SolForge is a pretty great get, even despite its flaws.
