You can be somewhat impeded by poor point allocation but overall you should be fine, especially because eventually you can respec. You can mitigate that by using a guide if you want, it can be very helpful as there's a lot that the game doesn't tell you outright so if you're not using a guide you'll be spending more time trying to figure out mechanics and the layout of the castle.
