This is an action adventure game, set during Japan's Sengoka Era (mid-15th to early 17th century), in which players assume the role of a samurai immersed in conflict between various clans. Players interact with several characters in branching storylines; select which clan to fight for; and perform various missions, such as killing rival clan members. Players use swords to slash, spears to stab, and hand-to-hand combat to punch enemies. Red blood spray is frequently depicted after characters slice and slash each other with katana blades. In one sequence, players are rewarded with money for laying waste to innocent villagers, though the game does not allow children to be killed. During the course of the game, female characters occasionally wear kimonos that expose deep cleavage.

Some dialogue also contains suggestive material (e.g., 'An open heart, open legs' and 'my precious collection of pornographic pictures') and profanity (e.g., 'f.ck' and 'sh.t').
